What is Keyword Matching?

Keyword matching is deliberately using the same vocabulary the job description uses, so that both database searches and skimming humans register the fit. Recruiters search resumes and profiles by the words in the requisition: exact titles, skills, tools, and certifications. If the posting says financial analysis and your resume only says number crunching, you can be invisible to that search despite being fully qualified, because software matches strings, not meaning. The honest practice is translation, not fabrication. Where you genuinely have the skill, name it the way this employer names it, in your title lines, your skills section, and one or two bullets that show it in action. Covering true synonyms is worth the space when both terms apply, project management alongside the PMP credential, for example. What keyword matching never justifies is claiming terms you cannot back in an interview, since the match that gets you the call also scripts the questions.
