What is Situational Interview?
An interview using hypothetical scenarios to test how you would reason through problems you have not met yet.
A situational interview poses hypotheticals: what would you do if a top client threatened to leave, how would you handle two urgent deadlines landing at once. Where behavioral questions test your past, situational ones test your judgment and process on problems you may not have met yet, which makes them common for step-up roles and for candidates changing domains, where the track record does not map neatly. Strong answers expose reasoning rather than jumping to an ending. Name how you would size up the situation, what you would check or ask first, the options you would weigh against each other, and where you would draw the line or escalate. Then tie the hypothetical back to a real adjacent experience whenever you have one, because a grounded here is how that actually played out for me converts a thought experiment into evidence. Interviewers are listening for structure, priorities, and calm under an open-ended prompt, and rehearsing out loud against generated scenarios from the interview questions generator builds exactly that muscle.
