What is Endorsement?

An endorsement is a one-click vote a connection gives to a skill listed in your Skills section. It requires no writing, which is exactly why it carries less weight than a recommendation: endorsing costs the giver one second, so counts can inflate with skills a person never actually saw you use. Still, endorsements are not worthless. A skill backed by many endorsements, especially from people who worked with you directly or hold the same expertise, reads as credible social proof at a glance, and skills data feeds how you appear in recruiter searches and filters. Practical upkeep is simple: keep the listed skills current, put the ones you want to be known for at the top, and remove endorsed-but-irrelevant skills that drag your positioning sideways, like the design tool you touched once in 2019. Endorse others genuinely and some will reciprocate unprompted. When you need proof with real weight behind it, request a written recommendation instead, and let endorsements be the garnish rather than the meal.
